PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the joined state of timbering plates, keep the self- sustaining property of a tunnel face, and dispense with reinforcing work by inclinatorily forming the timbering plate against the face, inclining the face, or inclining it in steps for an excavation.
SOLUTION: A through groove excavating chain cutter 101 is advanced forward toward a tunnel face along the outer periphery of the face as it approaches the vertex, it is moved backward as it is lowered from the vertex, it is rotated in an arch shape, and a hardening material 141 is filled in an arch-shaped through groove 102 to form an arch-shaped timbering plate 103. The portion surrounded by the arch-shaped timbering plate 103 is inclinatorily excavated toward the face to slantly form a tunnel face plane 200. When the timbering plate 103 is inclinatorily formed against the face, the positioning accuracy of the end face of the timbering plate 103 is increased, and the joined state of the timbering plates 103 is improved. The face plane 200 is inclined against the face or inclined in steps for excavation, the self-sustaining property of the face plane 200 is maintained, the face plane 200 of a large cross section or the soft ground is prevented from being collapsed, and no reinforcing work is required.
