To provide a twist-working method for a hollow material capable of increasing the strain of a core portion even when the hollow material is axial-symmetric or non-axial-symmetric.
In a step in which a shaft material 1 having a hole 10 in a core portion is subjected to the axial compressive force F by an upper punch 4-1 and a lower punch 4-2 in a container 3, one or more of the upper punch 4-1, the lower punch 4-2 and the container 3 are rotated around the axis, the shaft material 1 is twist-deformed, the hole 10 at the core portion of the shaft material 1 is reduced and diminished, a large deformation strain can also be generated in the core portion. Thus, the uniformly high strain distribution can be obtained without deviation in the transverse section of the shaft material 1, and a material having the excellent characteristic such as high strength can be obtained.
