PURPOSE: To make the characteristic of a presser foot suitable for straight sewing and sewing of soft materials which are apt to get creased by sewing by a method wherein a piece of fabric is continuously pressed at a desired sewing position by a presser foot or pressed by the presser foot and a walking feed dog alternately synchronizing with the up-and-down movement of the walking feed dog.
CONSTITUTION: A presser bar 4 is penetrated through a hollow of a walking presser bar 3, and provided with a presser foot 6 at the lower tip, a presser bar adjusting spring 8 in the upper hollow, and a presser bar holder 24 solidly about in the middle. A spring sheet member 17 is supported free to slide on a guide rod 16 that is in parallel with the presser bar 4, and connected to up- and-down moving mechanisms 13, 11, and 9 of a walking feed dog 26. A lifter spring 59 moves the presser bar 4 up with a larger spring force than that of the presser bar adjusting spring 8. The action of the lifter spring 59 can be transmitted to the presser bar 4 or cut off by operating the presser foot adjusting member 49. As a result, the characteristic of the presser foot becomes applicable for straight sewing and sewing of soft materials which are apt to get creased by sewing.
