PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily catch the end of a selected thread at a specific position and surely knot the selected thread to a sewing thread without causing troubles on sewing.
SOLUTION: In this sewing machine, a hook is closed to prevent the escaping of the end of a thread from the notch 381a to 381e during a period from the start to the finish of catching the end of a selected thread by a thread clamp 37. Further, since the machine is provided with a stitch balancing thread tension 39 to control the tension of a sewing thread at needle side, the sewing thread is imparted with a specified tension with a thread catch 36 and the stitch balancing thread tension 39, and the selected thread is held by stitch balancing thread tensiors 331-335 at a thread winder-side and together with a female part 364 and a thread pressing part 365 at a thread drawing end-side to impart the selected thread with specified degree of tension. The sewing thread and the selected thread are knotted by a knotter as they are tensioned. A thread tension disc of the stitch balancing thread tension 39 is closed during the period from the start to the finish of the thread knotting work to impart the thread with tension, but the disc is open during sewing.
