PURPOSE: To obtain a primer composition for imparting an improved weathering resistance to a silicone-coated thermoplastic articles by incorporating a UV stabilizer including an acrylic polymer, a solvent, 2-(2'-hydroxy-5'-t-octylphenyl)- benzotriazole and nickel dibutylthiocarbamate.
CONSTITUTION: The primer composition comprises an acrylic polymer in the presence of an amount of about 1.0 to 5.0 wt.% of the composition and a solvent in the presence of an amount of about 90 to 98.5 wt.% of the composition. Further, the composition comprises a UV stabilizer including 2-(2'-hydroxy-5'-t- octylphenyl)-benzotriazole in the presence of an amount of about 0.5 to 2.0 wt.% of the composition and a nickel dibutyldithiocarbamate in the presence of an amount of about 0.05 to 0.2 wt.% of the composition. As the acrylic resin, a polymethyl methacrylate is preferable. As the solvent, a diacetone alcohol or the like is preferable. Thus, a thermoplastic article made of a cured silicone surface coat adhered to a primer layer is obtained.
