Abstract:

To provide vaccines and treatments related to canine influenza.

The present invention relates to influenza viral antigens, and methods of presenting these antigens to canines, especially dogs, and also relates to attenuated and killed vaccines. In addition, the present invention relates to experimentally generated canine and equine influenza viruses. The invention includes influenza A including H3, N8, H3N8, H7N7 and viruses which contain at least one genome segment from the canine or equine influenza virus. The present invention also relates to the use of these viruses in therapeutic compositions to protect canines, in particular, dogs from diseases caused by influenza viruses.
