A valve spring 26 is specified within durability limit of a material so that the number of effective windings between set height and the maximum use height becomes an integer (for example, it is defined by an integer ±0.125). That 'the number of effective windings becomes an integer' ensures the effect for reducing lateral force of the valve spring 26, and that 'the number of effective windings between set height and the maximum use height becomes an integer' ensures that the number of effective windings of the valve spring 26 becomes an integer while the valve spring 26 is compressed from set height to the maximum use height. That is, this spring does not provide the number of effective windings in a natural condition and is designed in such a way that the number of effective windings between set height and the maximum use height becomes an integer so as to reduce lateral force when the valve spring 26 is used.
