PURPOSE: To form a 'tatami' bed for use in a Japanese style room to be favorably used by the aged by securing a frame to the subfloor part of the 'tatami', furnishing a floor which is borne movably up and down relative to the frame, and furnishing a supporting device capable of expanding and contracting between the floor and the frame.
CONSTITUTION: Part of 'tatami' 1 is cut open so that an opening is provided, and a frame 2 is fixed from the subfloor part so that the opening is shut. The frame 2 is made of synthetic resin, structured as free of water leak, furnished at the bottom with a drainage port 8 and tap 9, and is connected with a drainage pipe 10. A floor 3 fitted in this opening in 'tatami' with no gap produced is structured so that 'tatami' is fixed onto a wooden table, and guide cylinders 11 are secured to the four corners of its undersurface. A supporting device 4 elongating in two steps is installed in the position connecting the centers of the frame 2 and floor 3 vertically, and a valve 6 and pump 7 are connected with this device 4 through a piping 5. When the pump 7 is actuated and valve 6 is turned, the supporting device 4 expands and contracts to cause vertical motions of the floor 3. When the floor 3 is situated over the 'tatami' 1, it may serve as a bed, writing desk, stepboard, etc.
