Abstract:
To provide a vibration damping device reduced in weight and capable of increasing the quake-resistance of an underwater structure.
The underwater structure 10 comprises a vibration damping device A1 formed of a flat plate 12. When the underwater structure 10 is vibrated, the flat plate 12 is elastically deformed by water W around the flat plate 12. By this, not only the mass of the flat plate 12 but also the mass of the water W in an area opposed to the flat plate 12 can be additionally used as the mass of the vibration system of the vibration damping device A1.
