PURPOSE: To improve the resolution of a desired area in a displayed video image without increasing the size of a display device.
CONSTITUTION: Let characters 'ABC' be displayed as an original video image, and when a character 'B' in the character string is displayed a the high resolution, the video image is divided into a video image of 'A C' and the video image of 'B'. The character 'B' is displayed with magnification in comparison with the video image 'A C' and each video image is magnified by a lens. On the other hand, the video image 'A C' is magnified largely and the video image 'B' displayed originally larger is magnified with a smaller magnification. When the two video images are overlapped, the video images 'A C' and 'B' are displayed in the same size as shown in (d) and the video image 'B' is expressed in finer picture elements.
