Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscosity-index improver and a lubricating oil composition containing it which are excellent in a viscosity-index improving ability.
SOLUTION: The viscosity-index improver comprises a copolymer (A) composed of (a1) (meth)acrylates having 1C and/or 2C alkyl group, (a2) (meth) acrylates having 12C and/or 13C alkyl group, (a3) (meth)acrylates having alkyl groups of the number of carbons of 14 and/15, and (a4) (meth)acrylates having alkyl groups of one or more kinds selected from 16-24C alkyl groups, with a % by mass of the respective monomer, based upon the sum total mass of (a1) through (a4), being for (a1) 27-40%, (a2) 10-40%, (a3) 10-40%, and (a4) 5-35% as the essential constituent monomers. The lubricating oil contains this viscosity-index improver.
