Abstract:
To provide (AlyCr1-y) X-coated workpieces such as chipping (Zerspanungswerkzeuge), metal-cutting and shaping tools and components used in machine and die construction; and to provide a method for depositing such a coating on a workpiece under avoidance of the drawbacks of related art.
There is provided a workpiece or component coated with a system of film layers at least one of which is composed of (AlyCr1-y) X, where X=N, C, B, CN, BN, CBN, NO, CO, BO, CNO, BNO or CBNO and 0.4<=y<0.68. The composition within the film is either essentially constant or varying over the thickness of the film continually or in steps.
