To surely stop a motor by a simple and inexpensive constitution by short-circuit braking which can brake regardless of a rotor position when a washing-cam-dehydrating tub is rotating by an inertial rotation at the time when a power switch is turned on; and to increase safety for a washing machine which drives the motor by an inverter circuit.
DC power of a rectification circuit 3 which is connected with an AC power source 1 is inverted into AC power by the inverter circuit 4, and the motor 5 is driven. Then, the rotation of the motor 5 is detected by a rotor position-detecting means 6 or a counter electromotive force-detecting means 22, which constitutes a motor rotation-detecting means, and the inverter circuit 4 is controlled by a controlling means 10. The controlling means 10 accepts a switch input from an input-setting means 11 even when that the motor 5 is rotating is detected by the rotor position-detecting means 6 or the counter electromotive force-detecting means 22 while the power source is turned on. At the same time, the controlling means 10 performs the short-circuit braking control by the inverter circuit 4.
