Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the water absorptive sheet for an optical fiber cable which can completely prevent the infiltration and running of the sea water and ground water in the cable even if large cracks or damages are generated in the protective sheath of the optical fiber cable. CONSTITUTION:A water absorptive high-polymer resin is bonded and stuck to one surface of a sheet-shaped base material by a fairly small amt. of a binder resin to allow the easy dislodgment of the resin at the time of water absorption. A surfactant is compounded with this resin to speed up initial water absorption. In addition, the above-mentioned water absorptive high-polymer resin is formed by compounding the resin having small grain sizes of 20 to 30mu grain sizes and the resin having large grain sizes of 100 to 300mu grain sizes at mixing ratios within a 20/80 to 80/20 range by which the generation of gap formation and loss is obviated.
