Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the titled polymer containing, as polymerized units, a cyclohexene anhydride (salt) and a specific monomer and useful as water- treatment additive for boiler waters and also as detergent additives acting as builders, sequestering agents or the like.
CONSTITUTION: The aimed polymer comprises (A) 3-95 wt.% of cyclohexene anhydride, an alkali metal or ammonium salt thereof, (B) 5-97 wt.% of a monomer selected from the compound of the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each H, methyl or the like; R3 is H, ethyl or the like, and X is H, an alkali metal or the like) and a (substituted) acrylamide and if required, (C) 0-90 wt.% of a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer at least partially water-soluble and copolymerizable with the components A and B. As the component A are preferable 1,2,3,6-cis-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride and an alkali metal salt thereof, and as the component B are preferable (meth)acrylic acid and the like. The aforementioned polymer is preferably obtained by the polymerization of the components A to C in the presence of water and a polymerization initiator at 40-105°C.
