To provide a wire rope tension device capable of increasing the contact area with a band brake, the friction resistance, and the braking force to apply the predetermined tension by providing wide braking units on both sides of a winding drum of the tension device, and preventing generation of any irregular winding by firmly winding a wire rope around a winch in an aligned manner.

A wire rope tension device 1 is arranged between a drum D with a wire rope R wound therearound, and a winch W or the like for drawing and winding the wire rope R from the drum D, and keeps the constant winding tension around the winch W or the like by making several turns of a middle portion of the wire rope R around a winding drum 2. A center portion of the winding drum 2 in the width direction is formed in a small diameter part forming a valley bottom 3. An inclined surface 5 is gradually expanded toward both flanges 4, 4, and outer surfaces of the flanges 4, 4 form braking units 6, 6, and band brakes 7, 7 are wound therearound.
