Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure electrolytic performance with respect to water electrolysis performed by using a nickel electrode by reducing overvoltage with safety and at a low cost.SOLUTION: In performing electrolysis of water by introducing an electrolytic solution into an electrode unit 1, the electrolysis is performed by configuring at least a surface of a negative electrode made to be present in the electrode unit 1 with nickel and feeding iron powder into the electrolytic solution such that the iron powder is made to adhere to the surface of the negative electrode. Electrolysis efficiency is enhanced compared with a case of using a stainless electrode, and reduction of electric power consumed in the electrolysis is achieved. By using the electrode of which the surface is made of nickel, generation of sludge that is a problem associated with the stainless electrode is suppressed, and a maintenance cycle of the apparatus including an electrode cell is extended. The method is quite simple because only direct feeding of the iron powder into the electrolytic solution is required. In addition, productivity of the electrode is high because only electrode formation with a nickel plate is required.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
