To provide a new method, for thermally treating contaminated soil, which enables efficient cleaning treatment of contaminated soil containing a low boiling point volatile organic compound such as benzene and a high boiling point compound such as tar and a cyanide, with the capability of rationally performing a series of processes ranging from the digging-out of the contaminaed soil to the refilling of the contaminated soil.
This method for thermally treating contaminated soil is to remove a harmful substance contained in the contaminated soil S0 by thermally treating it. In addition, the process to perform the thermal treatment comprises a process to remove the low boiling point volatile organic compound in order to dry the contaminated soil S0 and thereby, vaporize the low boiling point volatile organic compound, and later, a process to remove a high boiling point compound for the purpose of decomposing and/or vaporizing the high boiling point compound.
