Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a flame retardant polyester high in phosphorus content by copolymerizing a phenylphosphonic acid with a polyester main chain.
CONSTITUTION: A dicarboxylic acid or its deriv., a diol and a phosphorous type comonomer having flame retardancy represented by the formula (wherein Ar is a phenyl group which may have a substituent, a naphthyl group, and alkoxy group or an aralkyl group; and R is hydrogen or a 1-3C alkyl group) are polymerized in the presence of a cocatalyst selected from the group consisting of a metal salt of this copolymer, a metal salt of a dicarboxylic acid and a metal salt of a polybasic acid by a melt polycondensation method.
