A catalyst according to one embodiment of the present invention is used for the purpose of synthesizing 1,3-butadiene from ethanol. This catalyst comprises: a porous silica carrier that is formed of crystalline silica; ZnO that is supported by the silica carrier; and Zr that has interacted with a silanol group of the silica carrier.
