Disclosed is an active polarization-maintaining optical fiber of a horizontally linear type and a preparation method therefor, characterized in that the cross-sectional structure of the optical fiber respectively includes, from outside to inside, a base pipe layer (11), an outer cladding layer (12), a stress action zone (13), an inner cladding layer (14) and a core layer (15), the stress action zone (13) is in the shape of a horizontally linear long strip, the area of the stress action zone (13) accounts for less than 10% of the cross-sectional area of the optical fiber, and the length-width ratio of the outer cladding layer (12) is 1.5-4; and the main component of the core layer (15) is silicon dioxide, and is doped with aluminum, ytterbium, phosphorus and fluorine elements. The optical fiber has the advantages of a small stress action area, simple production process and low production cost.
