An apparatus (100) and a method for operating a current transformer (202) of a switchgear. The apparatus (100) comprises a carrying component (101); and an engaging assembly (102) movably arranged on the carrying component (101) and operable to engage with a mounting plate (201) of the current transformer (202) to allow the current transformer (202) to be removed from the switchgear with a movement of the carrying component (101), the engaging assembly (102) comprising a supporting component (1021) operable to support the mounting plate (201) via a first edge (2011) of the mounting plate (201); and a locking component (1022) operable to lock the mounting plate (201) via a second edge (2012) of the mounting plate (201) opposite to the first edge (2011). With the apparatus (100), the current transformer (202) can be replaced with less labor and operating time, thereby improving the replacement efficiency. Furthermore, the risk of equipment damage or personal injury caused by the accidental falling of the current transformer (202) can be efficiently avoided, so that the safety of maintenance is improved.
