This audio output device comprises: a first speaker which is a directional speaker disposed to face a video display surface; a second speaker with wider directivity than at least the first speaker; and an audio signal processing unit. The audio signal processing unit extracts a high-frequency-band-side signal component of an audio signal which is to be output together with a video to be displayed on the video display surface, and provides the extracted signal component as a first audio signal to be supplied to the first speaker. In addition, the audio signal processing unit extracts a signal component, having a lower frequency band than the first audio signal, of the audio signal which is to be output together with the video to be displayed on the video display surface, and performs delay processing to provide the resultant signal component as a second audio signal to be supplied to the second speaker.
