Abstract:
A base material according to one aspect of the present disclosure comprises cemented carbide. The cemented carbide includes a first hard phase and a binding phase. The first hard phase is composed of WC particles. The binding phase includes at least one type of element selected from Co and Ni. The base material comprises a main body part and a surface part provided to a surface of the main body part. The thickness of the surface part is no greater than the average particle diameter of the first hard phase. The ratio (B/A) of the area fraction (B) of the binding phase on the surface of the surface part to the area fraction (A) of the binding phase in a cross-section of the main body part is 1.2-2.0 inclusive.
