Abstract:
A current application unit (30) comprises: a load element (6), a switching element (7), and a shunt resistor (Rsh) connected in series between both terminals of an assembled battery (2) having a configuration in which a plurality of battery cells (Cb) are connected in series; and drive control units (29, 74, 85) which control the drive of the switching element such that an alternating current having a desired frequency is applied to the assembled battery. The drive control unit includes a PWM modulator (35) which generates a drive signal for driving the switching element through the pulse width modulation of an AC signal having the desired frequency, a PDM modulator (36) which generates the drive signal through the pulse-density modulation of the AC signal having the desired frequency, and a switching unit (37) which switches between a first drive state in which the switching element is driven by the drive signal generated by the PWM modulator and a second drive state in which the switching element is driven by the drive signal generated by the PDM modulator.
