The present invention provides: a bipyridine compound that exhibits an excellent control effect against noxious arthropods and is represented by formula (1) [In the formula, L represents a single bond etc., R1 represents a C1-C10 chain hydrocarbon group etc. that has one or more halogen atoms, R2 represents a C1-C6 alkyl group that may have one or more halogen atoms, R3 represents a C1-C6 chain hydrocarbon group etc. that may have one or more substituent groups selected from group B, q represents 0, 1, 2, or 3, R6 represents a C1-C6 alkyl group etc. that may have one or more halogen atoms, p represents 0, 1, 2, or 3, n represents 0, 1, or 2, and m represents 0, 1, or 2.]; an N-oxide compound of said bipyridine compound; and a composition that contains said compound.
