Title:
CALCIUM CARBONATE PIGMENT FOR COATED PAPER AND COATED PAPER MADE BY USING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2006/057062
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A slurry containing a calcium carbonate pigment according to the invention can be obtained by adding at least 0.1 part by mass of aluminum sulfate to 100 parts by mass (in terms of solid calcium carbonate) of a calcium carbonate slurry containing a dispersant, stirring the obtained slurry in such a way that each calcium carbonate particle is coated with aluminum sulfate, adding an aqueous alkali solution containing at least one member selected from among sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and ammonium hydroxide to the slurry under stirring with a target pH of 8, and then further stirring the resulting mixture. The invention provides a calcium carbonate pigment for the coated paper for commercial printing which is excellent in the development of gloss and the absorption of ink; and a process by which such a pigment that exhibits excellent applicability and good rheological characteristics and thus permits high-speed application with a high-speed coater in a short operating time can be produced with very small amounts of aluminum sulfate and an alkali such as sodium hydroxide.
