Abstract:
A first drive unit, in a state in which the tip of a tubular coupling has been inserted through the chest of a subject and placed in a lower part of the heart, pumps a gas into a diaphragm and causes the diaphragm to be pushed out of the tip of the tubular coupling while simultaneously causing the diaphragm to start to flex so as to cover the lower part of the heart, and discontinues the pumping of the gas into the diaphragm at the point in time when compressive balloons have been aligned with the atriums and ventricles of the heart. A second drive unit assists the pump function of the heart by alternately repeating an ejecting operation for filing the compressive balloons with a fluid and thereby making the same to expand, and a suction operation for causing the balloons to contract by discharging the fluid.
