Abstract:
The present invention provides a catalyst for producing an unsaturated carboxylic acid, the catalyst being used to obtain an unsaturated carboxylic acid from an unsaturated aldehyde and containing a component A represented by formula (I) and a component B, which is a compound containing either an inorganic acid or an organic acid.

(In formula (I), M is at least one type of element selected from the metal elements in period 4 of the periodic table, M' is at least one type of element selected from metal elements other than the metal elements in period 4 of the periodic table, and O is oxygen. x, x' and y indicate the atomic ratios of the components, in which x is an integer greater than or equal to 1, x' is 0 ≤ x' ≤ 0.4 for x = 1, and y is 0 or the atomic ratio of oxygen needed to satisfy the atomic ratios of the aforementioned components.)
