Abstract:
The present invention provides a circular polarizing filter for selectively transmitting circularly polarized light of one sense, either right circularly polarized light or left circularly polarized light of a specific wavelength, wherein the diffuse transmittance/direct transmittance when circularly polarized light of either of the senses in the specific wavelength is incident from a surface is smaller than the diffuse reflectance/regular reflectance for circularly polarized light of a different sense incident from that surface. The circular polarizing filter includes a circular polarization separation layer, and the circular polarization separation layer includes a reflected light scattering circular polarization separation layer and further may include a non-reflected light scattering circular polarization separation layer. The reflected light scattering circular polarization separation layer is formed from a layer in which a cholesteric liquid crystal phase is fixed, and the non-reflected light scattering circular polarization separation layer is formed from a laminate that includes a layer in which a cholesteric liquid crystal phase is fixed or a linear polarization separation layer and a λ/4 retardation layer. This circular polarizing filter has a high degree of circular polarization, and a highly sensitive sensor system can be provided by using this circular polarizing filter.
