Abstract:
The problem to be addressed by the present invention is to provide a coated cutting tool to be used in harsher cutting processes, wherein the coated cutting tool can be used over a long period of time and exhibits improved defect resistance with no decrease in abrasion resistance. The present invention relates to a coated cutting tool that includes a base material and a coating layer formed on the surface of the base material, wherein the coating layer includes a hard layer having a composition represented by (TixM1-x)N [here, M is at least one element selected from among the group consisting of Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Al, Si and Y, x denotes the atomic ratio of Ti element relative to the total of Ti element and M element, and satisfies 0.45 ≤ x ≤ 0.9], the average particle diameter of particles that constitute the hard layer is 200-600 nm, and particles in the hard layer satisfy prescribed conditions.
