Abstract:
A communication method and apparatus, for reducing a communication service time delay in a satellite communication scenario, and improving the user experience. A session management function network element determines that a user plane function network element that provides service for a PDU session of a terminal device and an access network device are deployed on a same satellite; and the session management function network element sends first session management information to the access network device, or sends second session management information to the user plane function network element. The first session management information comprises first session information, and the first session information instructs the user plane function network element to process the context of the PDU session; the second session management information comprises second session information and third session information; the second session information instructs the terminal device to process the context of the PDU session, and the third session information instructs the access network device to process the context of the PDU session. In this way, a communication between the satellite and a ground device can be reduced, so that the communication time delay is reduced.
