Abstract:
According to the present invention, each of a plurality of computers has a plurality of components. The plurality of components of each computer include a processor and a storage device. Each component delivers performance within a range up to an upper limit and consumes power within a range up to an upper limit, wherein said upper limits are defined by a power status that is among a plurality of power statuses associated with the type of the component, and that is set for the component. A processor unit (formed by one or more processors provided within or outside the plurality of computers) determines whether or not the budget power for a target computer (a computer, the power of which is to be adjusted), namely the maximum power that the target computer is permitted to consume, is at least equal to the current power consumption of the target computer. If the determination result is negative, the processor unit selects at least one component of the target computer, and selects, as the power status of the selected component, a power status that is among the plurality of power statuses associated with the type of the component, and that is determined by either the priority of the operation to be performed using the component, or data characteristics associated with the component, or both.
