Title:
CONDITIONALLY LETHAL RICE ENVIRONMENT MUTATION GENE OSESL1, PROTEIN ENCODED THEREBY, AND APPLICATION THEREOF
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/119359
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided are a conditionally lethal rice environment mutation gene osesl1, a protein encoded thereby, and an application thereof, resolving the issue in which existing methods fail to effectively prevent the effects of abnormal climate on the fertility of a photo-thermo-sensitive male sterile line. The nucleotide sequence of the gene osesl1 is as set forth in the sequence listing SEQ ID NO: 1, and the amino acid sequence of the protein encoded thereby is as in set forth in SEQ ID NO: 2. Following heading of osesl1 mutated rice, the lethal embryonic phenotype occurs 12 days after pollination, manifesting as blackening at a junction of the embryo and the endosperm. The embryo is normal at an average temperature lower than 22ºC, and dies at an average temperature higher than 28ºC. When the temperature is between 22-28ºC, the embryo dies during a long-daylight regime longer than 13 hours, and is normal during a short-daylight regime shorter than 13 hours. Also provided is an application of the gene osesl1 in controlling the development of rice embryos.
