Abstract:
A constant velocity universal joint boot 1 equipped with a large diameter-side attachment part 4 which is mounted to the outer-circumferential surface 32b of an outside joint member 32 of a constant velocity universal joint 31, and is clamped and secured thereto by a boot band 5, a small diameter-side attachment part 6 which is mounted to the outer-circumferential surface of a shaft 46, and is clamped and secured thereto by a boot band 5, and a bellows section 3 which integrally connects the large diameter-side attachment part 4 and the small diameter-side attachment part 6, and comprises a plurality of peak sections 3a and valley sections 3b which are alternatingly formed in the axial direction, the constant velocity universal joint boot 1 being characterized in that: the large diameter-side attachment part 4 and a large-diameter end valley section 3b5 which is nearest the large diameter-side attachment part 4 are connected to one another by a corner section 2; the corner section 2 is provided in an axial direction location corresponding to a chamfered section 49 formed in the outer-circumferential surface 32b on the opening end section of the outside joint member 32, and is shaped so as to decrease in diameter toward the opening side in a direction substantially along the chamfered section 49; the large-diameter end valley section 3b5 is configured so as to contact a radially outside end section T of the opening end section of the outside joint member 32 in a state where the large diameter-side attachment part 4 of the constant velocity universal joint boot 1 is mounted to the outer-circumferential surface 32b of the outside joint member 32, and is clamped and secured thereto by the boot band 5; the diameter difference ΔD5 between the large-diameter end peak section 3a5, which is nearest the large diameter-side attachment part 4, and the large-diameter end valley section 3b5, is set so as to be smaller than the diameter difference ΔD4 between the peak section 3a4 and the valley section 3b4 which are adjacent to the large-diameter end peak section 3a5 and the large-diameter end valley section 3b5; and when the operation angle of the constant velocity universal joint 1 is high, the large-diameter end peak section 3a5 and other peak sections 3a deform so as to bend in the direction of the large diameter-side attachment part 4 and collapse onto one another with the large-diameter end valley section 3b5 as the fulcrum therefor in a manner such that the large-diameter end peak section 3a5 does not contact a projecting part 5a of the boot band 5.
