Abstract:
When vehicle speed detected by a vehicle speed sensor (Sc) and acceleration pedal opening degree detected by an acceleration pedal opening degree sensor (Sd) are determined by a control area determination medium (M3) to be in a tire area of a lockup clutch, an engagement permission medium (M2) allows engagement of the lockup clutch to contribute to fuel efficiency improvement by increasing the frequency of the engagement of the lockup clutch within a range not affecting a function even though the water temperature of an engine coolant detected by a water temperature sensor (Sa) or the temperature of transmission working fluid detected by an oil temperature sensor (Sb) is below a predetermined temperature. Since engaging responsiveness does not matter much in the tire area where the lockup clutch is fully engaged, the lockup clutch causes no problems while engaged at a low temperature where the engaging responsiveness is lowered due to low oil temperature and high viscosity of the working fluid.
