Crosslinked vinyl resin foams characterized by exhibiting a total light transmission of 50 % or above at a thickness of 1mm, which are excellent in transparency and useful as optical fibers, antireflection films, heat insulators, interlayer dielectric films, or recording media&semi and a process for production of crosslinked vinyl resin foams, characterized by subjecting a solution comprising 0.01 to 10 % by mass of a monomer component consisting of 50 to 100 % by mass of a polyfunctional vinyl monomer and 0 to 50 % by mass of a monofunctional vinyl monomer and 90 to 99.99 % by mass of an organic solvent to radical polymerization to polymerize a part of the vinyl groups of the polyfuntional vinyl monomer, concentrating the resulting mixture to such an extent that the concentration of the organic solvent does not lower to less than 20 % by mass, conducting radical polymerization of the remaining vinyl groups to obtain an organic wet gel, and then subjecting the wet gel to supercritical drying. This process enables the production of a crosslinked vinyl resin foam exhibiting a total light transmission of 50 % or above at a thickness of 1 mm.
