Abstract:

[Problem] To provide a cutting tool with excellent deposition resistance and abrasion resistance. [Solution] A cutting tool (1) has a cutting blade (5) at an intersecting ridge line between a rake face (3) and a flank (4); the surface of a base (2) is covered with a covering layer (6) of CraM1-a(C1-xNx) (where M is at least one type of chemical element selected from Ti, Al, Si, W, Mo, Ta, Hf, Nb, Zr and Y, 0.01 ≤ a ≤ 0.5, and 0 ≤ x ≤ 1); droplets (7) exist on the surface of the covering layer (6), and the average composition of the droplets (7) that exist on the rake face (3) has a higher Cr content than the average composition of the droplets (7) that exist on the flank (4).
