Abstract:
This array data is compressed with a favorable compression efficiency such that an arbitrary section within said array data can be restored quickly. Array data VL is divided into a plurality of blocks, and approximation functions are set for the blocks. For each entry included in each block k, a difference value dV_i from a value F_k (i) is calculated, said value F_k (i) being calculated by substituting a value V_i of the entry and a rank i of the entry into the approximation function F_k that was set for the block k in which the entry is included, and the difference values dV_i are arranged in the order of the ranks of the entries from which the difference values dV_i were calculated to create a difference value list dVL_k of the block k. The approximation function F_k and the difference value list dVL_k set of each block k serve as block data BLD_k of the block k, and an aggregation of the block data BLD_k calculated for each block serves as compression data of the array data.
