Provided in the present application are a data protection method, and an electronic device. The method comprises: an electronic device acquiring, from a non-security chip, second user data, a certificate of a first counter and a first check value of first user data; the electronic device acquiring a certificate of the first counter from a security chip; when the certificate of the first counter in the non-security chip is the same as the certificate of the first counter in the security chip, the electronic device acquiring a first value of the first counter by means of the security chip; the electronic device obtaining, by means of the security chip, a second check value of second user data on the basis of the second user data and the first value of the first counter; and only when the first check value is the same as the second check value, the electronic device using the second user data. In this way, a multi-level authentication mechanism is implemented in a security chip. Only when authentication is passed can an electronic device use second user data, thereby ensuring the security of storing user data on the electronic device, and preventing an attacker from counterfeiting the user data.
