The present invention addresses the problem of providing a detection method using immunochromatography including a step of detecting a failure to add a specimen. The invention also addresses the problem of providing a test strip for immunochromatography having a means for detecting a failure to add a specimen. The present inventors provides a detection method using immunochromatography and a test strip for immunochromatography, wherein in a detection method using immunochromatography for detecting a substance to be detected in a sample obtained by diluting a specimen, by a step or a means for trapping a complex of a component which is contained in the specimen and other than the substance to be detected (a control component) with a label having an antibody against the component immobilized thereon by an antibody immobilized on an insoluble membrane, the presence or absence of the control component is detected, whereby a failure to add the specimen can be detected.
