Title:
DEVICE DESIGNED TO BE FITTED ON THE COMPRESSOR ACTUATING SYSTEM OF VEHICLE AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2002/070291
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The device designed to be fitted on the compressor actuating system of vehicle air-conditioning units has been conceived as a new system to actuate the compressor of vehicle air-conditioning units and it affords incredible additional advantages as it provides a uniform temperature inside the vehicle because the compressor (4) is not actuated by the engine of the vehicle but rather by the pump of the hydraulic steering system (3) as such the speed or the rotation of the motor will not influence the performance of the equipment; a further advantage is that the new system utilises a small hydraulic motor (1), which is turn is actuated by the excess oil pressure generated by the pump of the hydraulic steering system (3), which at present is systematically purged through relief valves and this, in fact, is a waste of power. As already mentioned, the load on the engine will be smaller and consequently its power will increase. This will result in greater economies and improved performance. All the advantages mentioned above have not take into account the fact that the compressor (3) and hydraulic motor (1) set are not installed in the engine compartment where very high temperatures occur, and as such the durability and efficiency of the system are considerably increased.

Description:
"DEVICE DESIGNED TO BE FITTED ON THE COMPRESSOR ACTUATING SYSTEM OF VEHICLE AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS", this device consists of a practical and innovative method for actuating compressors. It is a hydraulic system, to be used in vehicle air-conditioning systems. Its original constructional features provide better utilisation and performance conditions than the other models usually found in the market.

The present patent request refers to a system especially designed and developed to afford practical features which result in great advantages both with regard to utilisation and also to manufacture.

Furthermore, this request also has the objective of presenting a compressor actuating system for vehicle air-conditioning units not only at a low cost for industrial feasibility, but also offering robust features as well as safety and practical use characteristics, thus providing the consumers with an additional option in the market.

It is common knowledge that the air-conditioning system compressors are operated by belts which in their turn are driven by their own motors.

Specialised personnel are well aware of the fact that as the present systems depend on the rotation of the engine to start up the compressor, in the event of a tralrc jam or whenever the vehicle runs at a low speed, the air-conditioning of me vehicle is jeopardised.

Usually, in order to prevent overheating and excessive fuel consumption when traffic jams occur and these are very common in big cities, the motorist switches off the air-conditioning system, probably when it would be most useful.

The great inconvenience of the existing models is that the engine of the vehicle loses power when it actuates the compressor pump of the air-conditioning unit and that results in increased fuel consumption and engine overheating. As a consequence, the efficiency of the air-conditioning system is eliminated.

Having pondered about the above-mentioned inconveniences and after innumerable studies and research, the inventor, who belongs to this sphere of activity, created and developed the device presented in this patent request. He designed a system to drive the compressor of the vehicle air-conditioning unit which takes into account not only the mechanical features and operating characteristics but also the form, the arrangement and the location of its parts and components which correctly distributed and linked result in increased efficiency without any additional onus.

Thus, this patent was designed with the objective of furnishing a device comprising as small a number of parts as possible, conveniently shaped and arranged so as to allow the utilisation of the new device and its adaptation to the existing vehicle systems, and thus allow it to perform its functions in an unmatched efficient and versatile manner, without the mentioned inconveniences.

In the present patent request, we present a practical and innovative actuating system for compressors of the air-conditioning units of vehicles which has all the required operational and safety features, and has been designed and developed in accordance with the most modern techniques and trends of the automobile industry. It has a variety of utilisations, which range from passenger vehicles to agricultural machines as well as heavy-duty vehicles.

The use of this innovative device allows the motorist to obtain an excellent efficiency level. Moreover, this actuating device for compressors of air-conditioning units of vehicles possesses a good durability. It was conceived to be used chiefly in automotive vehicles.

The configuration of the device, in its new constructional form, comprises a system that is provided with a hydraulic pump, ducts, hoses, condenser, compressor, buttons, thermostat and a refrigerant tank.

As it will be perceived, the equipment in question is of a conventional nature, the innovative factor is the start up of a hydraulic pump that in turns actuates the compressor. All this is possible through the reutilization of the excess pressure from the pump of the hydraulic steering system. Its feasibility is therefore of no concern, however both the functional and practical results are excellent and the system oXered is innovative when compared to the existing systems.

This hydraulic system, which was designed in an innovative fashion, has a rather peculiar aspect and above all a characteristic one. In addition to its constructional aspect, it stands out on account of the economy and temperature uniformity that it affords.

Attached, for a better understanding and comprehension of what the "DEVICE DESIGNED TO BE FITTED ON THE COMPRESSOR ACTUATING SYSTEM OF VEHICLE AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS"involves, we present an illustrative drawing.

Drawing 1-shows a view of the complete system of the hydraulic steering integrated with the air-conditioning unit.

As shown in the attached drawing,"TI4E DLVICE DESIGNLD TO BE FITTED ON THE COMPRESSOR ACTUATING SYSTEM OF VEHICLE AIR- CONDITIONING UNITS", mentioned herein, is essentially characterised by consisting of an integrated system comprising the Following components : A hydraulic motor (1) which is actuated by the pressure discharged from the ducts (2) connected to the hydraulic pump of the steering system (3); a conventional compressor (4) for vehicle air-conditioning systems, which is actuated by the hydraulic motor (1); a conventional condenser (5) for vehicle air-conditioning systems; a thermostat (6) to adjusts the desired temperature inside the vehicle.

This new approach for actuating the compressor of the vehicle air- conditioning system, results in incredible additional advantages as it ensures a uniform temperature inside the vehicle. This happens because the compressor is not actuated by the engine of the vehicle but rather by the pump of the hydraulic steering system. As such, the speed or rotation of the engine does not affect the performance of the equipment.

A further advantage is that this new method utilises a small hydraulic motor, which in turn is actuated by the excess oil pressure generated by the pump of the hydraulic steering system, which is systematically purged through relief valves and this, in fact, is a waste of power. As already mentioned, the load on the engine will be smaller and consequently its power will increase. This will result in greater economies and improved performance.

The advantages mentioned above have not taken into account the fact that the compressor and hydraulic motor set are not installed in the engine compartment where very high temperatures occur, and as such the durability and efficiency of the system are considerably increased.

It can be perceived from the foregoing that the"DEVICE DESIGNED TO BE FITTED ON THE COMPRESSOR ACTUATING SYSTEM OF VEHICLE AIR- CONDITIONING UNITS"is characterised as being a considerably useful model as it possesses all the practical and functional qualities that fully justify this Utility Model patentrequest.
