Abstract:
A data encoder, data decoder, data encoding method, and data decoding method for encoding and decoding original data by using a simple algorithm while minimizing encoding errors. A means (1a) divides original data, such as sound data, into high- and low-order components of data. A means (1b) produces differential data between the high-order components of data. A means (1c) produces data indicating the number of original data. A means (1d) combines the low-order components of data with the differential data. Since the differentials of the high-order components of data, which are less variable, are used, the original data can be encoded and decoded by a simple algorithm while minimizing encoding errors.
