Abstract:
Provided are a display device that has high contrast, prevents a reduction in freedom for material selection, and has easy manufacturing processes and a method for manufacturing the display device. An organic EL display device (1) is provided with: first electrodes (31) for each subpixel (50R, 50G, 50B) disposed in a matrix form; edge covers (17) that have opening parts (18) on the top of the first electrodes (31) and also cover at least part of the edges of the first electrodes (31); a light emitting layer (33) disposed in the opening part (18); and a second electrode (35) disposed in a layer above the light emitting layer (33) and disposed facing the first electrodes (31) via the light emitting layer (33). Light absorbing layers (16) are disposed in a layer below the edge covers (17).
