A display substrate and a display apparatus, the display substrate comprising a base substrate (10) having a storage capacitor arranged thereupon, the storage capacitor comprising a metal layer common electrode (20); a first insulating layer (30) covers the base substrate (10); a transparent electrode layer (40) covers the first insulating layer (30); a second insulating layer (31) covers the transparent electrode layer (40) and the first insulating layer (30), having a first through hole (32) penetrating the first insulating layer (30) and the second insulating layer (31) at a position corresponding to the metal layer common electrode (20), and having a second through hole (33) at a position corresponding to the transparent electrode layer (40); a pixel electrode (50) is connected to the metal layer common electrode (20) via the first through hole (32) and is connected to the transparent electrode layer (40) via the second through hole (33). The first electrode layer (30) being covered by the transparent electrode layer (40) increases the area of the electrode on the side closest to the base substrate (10) and the storage capacity of the capacitor, and allows the insulating layer covering the transparent electrode layer (40) to be thinner, further increasing the storage capacity of the capacitor. As it is a transparent electrode layer (40) that is added, there can also be a common electrode in a display area, and the light transmittance will not be affected.
