Abstract:
Provided are: a hole formation method with which it is possible to form high quality holes even in cases in which the work material is a difficult-to-cut metal material or a fiber-reinforced composite material; and a drill bit to be used in this method. The drill bit 1 is provided with at least one cutting edge 10 and a surface (a leading flank 20 and a trailing flank 30) positioned in the vicinity of the cutting edge 10. A recess (groove 40) exhibiting a prescribed planar shape is provided in the surface. The hole formation method includes a hole formation step in which a hole is formed by cutting the portion to be processed of the work material W by means of drilling while bringing a cutting aid lubricating material 2 into contact with the portion to be processed, and the drill bit 1 is used in the hole formation step.
