Abstract:
The present invention relates to an electric power steering comprising: a steering wheel operated to steer a vehicle; a sensor module for detecting a vehicle speed, a steering torque, and a steering angle; a steering shaft coupled to the steering wheel and having a driven gear installed at a predetermined position in the axial direction; an MDPS motor having a driving gear engaged with the driven gear; a main control unit for computing an assist torque by receiving the input of the steering torque, steering angle and vehicle speed from the sensor module, and for driving the MDPS motor by CAN-communicating with the MDPS motor; an auxiliary driving unit installed in an axial-direction area of the steering shaft and away from the driven gear; and an auxiliary control unit for actuating the auxiliary driving unit by intervening in the event of a failure in the MDPS motor or the main control unit or of interrupted communication between the MDPS motor and the main control unit.
