An electronic device display method and an electronic device, wherein the display screen of the electronic device comprises a first display area and a second display area. In said method, an electronic device determines a first application mode (S11), adjusts, according to the first application mode, the intensity values of color channels stored in a hardware composer (HWC) (S12); then determines, according to the HWC, respective first layers corresponding to the first display area (S13), superimposes, by means of the HWC, base layers corresponding to the adjusted intensity values of the color channels and the respective first layers (S14), and during the superimposition, the base layers being located at a lower layer of the respective first layers, the base layers being layers corresponding to the second display area, displays the superimposed image by means of the display screen (S15). In said method, all layers are generated without the need for an HWC, avoiding the problem that due to the limitation of the HWC, an image to be displayed on a display screen cannot be determined. Furthermore, multiple data interactions between a GPU and a memory are not required, thereby reducing the power consumption.
