Disclosed are an electronic device for reducing screen presentation time and a control method therefor. This electronic device comprises: a processor; a memory for storing instructions to be executed by the processor; a display module operated in at least one of a first state and a second state distinct from the first state; and a sensor module for detecting the state of the display module, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, instructs the electronic device to: determine whether the display module has changed from the first state to the second state; generate image information by converting the image displayed on the display module in the first state if the state of the display module has changed to the second state; store the generated image information in at least one memory; and, when the display module changes from the second state to the first state, output an image for display on the display module on the basis of the stored image information. The image information that has been generated by converting the image displayed on the display module may include information about the image that has been generated by converting the image desired by a user.
