Abstract:
An electronic settlement system comprising a portable telephone (102) mounted with a noncontact IC card means and a fingerprint collating means, a noncontact IC card reader (105), and a fingerprint sampler (106) connected with the noncontact IC card reader (105). Fingerprint data on a user sampled by the fingerprint sampler (106) is transmitted from the noncontact IC card reader (105) to the portable telephone (102) where a fingerprint collating means collates the sampled fingerprint data with prestored fingerprint data and transmits the collation results to the noncontact IC card reader (105). The noncontact IC card reader (105) performs electronic settlement according to the received collation results, thus ensuring security and reliability when a user purchases an article of commerce.
